coming home to odd bird
Catherine and Taylor met here, in Richmond. Got married here, in their backyard, a wedding they designed and organized themselves. Their son Bones was born here too - in their bedroom, in the house they've been slowly building into a place that looks and feels like them.
The shop is an extension of that house. The counter is milled from a walnut tree that grew in their backyard. The tangelo orange on the logo is their front door color. The displays get lovingly reorganized by a toddler who has strong opinions. Recently they painted their downstairs bathroom the same Klein Blue as the shop ceiling - the shop bleeding back into the home now, the way it was always going to go.
They opened Odd Bird to build a life that felt meaningful - something for their kids to grow up with, something that made Richmond better, something that gave them a reason to keep hunting for the objects worth owning. The cutting board worth showing off. The pillow that does more for a tired couch than a $3,000 replacement. The dish towel you actually want hanging in your kitchen.
We believe good design should survive a Tuesday. Not just a photoshoot.
