Matthew Dowdy is a Richmond-based artist with a material practice in atmospheric media. Each Candle Object starts as pure beeswax and two cotton wicks, dipped and shaped by hand without molds - which means no two are the same. Clearing is the wrapped form, two tapers twisted together and scattered with intricate hand-sculpted texture. More sculpture than candle, until you light it.

Natural beeswax color varies slightly piece to piece. Approximately 11.5" tall with a 1" base.


Details

Each candle is made from pure beeswax, individually dipped, and shaped by hand one at a time. As the wax ages, it will develop a ghostly patina called a bloom. This will not affect the burn and can be left to age or be removed with a soft damp cloth. The candles carry a naturally sweet aroma without any additional scent. Wicks are tied in the dipping process and should be trimmned before burning. Light with intention.
