A detente is a small protective charm, traditionally carried in a pocket or pinned inside a coat. The name comes from the Spanish for “stop,” as in: stop right there, evil, this person is covered.
These are made in Peru. Each one frames a small saint image in hand-wrapped thread and gold trim, with a ribbon loop at the top. Some are arched, some are hearts, some are ovals. The saints vary too. You’ll find Our Lady of Guadalupe, MartĂn de Porres (Lima’s own), and a rotating cast of others.
They’re an excellent stocking stuffer. Give as a good luck talisman.
We choose yours at random, so we can’t take requests for a specific shape. You get the detente you get. They're all good!
