About Best Products -
Before there was a brand experience, there was Best Products. Founded in Richmond in 1957 by Sydney and Frances Lewis - art collectors, tastemakers, and genuinely ahead of their time. Best was a catalog showroom retailer that hired a sculptor to design their stores. The result was nine of the most gloriously unhinged buildings in retail history: a store with a crumbling facade, one where a concrete corner mechanically slid open each morning, one with a full tropical forest in the entryway. The Lewises traded merchandise for Warhols. They collected Chuck Close and Alex Katz before anyone else. They eventually gave it all to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
Best closed in the late '90s. Most of the buildings are gone. But the idea that a store selling everyday objects could also be a radical act of design? That one stuck around.
This shirt is our love letter to them and to Richmond.
